FilCom CARES 2022 Mini-Grants Project

FilCom CARES has been awarded national grants to support its community as the pandemic continues. FilCom CARES is offering mini-grants to empower students and community-based organizations in Hawaii to increase access to COVID-19 vaccination information and resources. We will provide awards for innovative projects that aim to serve those in the Filipino community and groups that have been especially affected by the pandemic in Hawaii. Grants ranging from $500-$2,000 will be awarded with priority given to community-based organizations and projects focused on assisting underserved groups/communities. 

These grants are funded by The Public Good Projects in partnership with Kaiser Permanente and the East Bay Community Foundation.


Examples from our previous mini-grants include: 

  • Social Media, webinars, newsletters, flyers

  • Vaccination clinics and testing 

  • Other activities effective at reaching out to the communities of focus

Timeline

We will be reviewing applications when we receive them up until February 18, 2022, 11:59 PM HST. *Late proposals may be reviewed at the discretion of FilCom CARES if funds still remain.

  • Applicants will be notified within 7 days of receipt of their mini-grant application

  • All awardees will have to submit a final impact report by March 17, 2022

  • All mini-grant activities should be completed by March 31, 2022

Grant Guidelines

Mini-grants will support initiatives to:

  • Engage with members of their community to better understand vaccine and COVID-19 related concerns

  • Provide relevant information and resources to encourage vaccination

  • Link people to local vaccination and COVID-19 testing resources

  • Assist in designing culturally relevant communications that resonate with the community.

The types of projects that we hope to fund may include but are not limited to activities such as:

  • Hosting listening sessions or forums in community of focus

  • Conducting community outreach to engage with community and provide information and resources

  • Student-led projects (education or outreach related)

  • Sponsoring community events to encourage vaccination

  • Creating a media campaign or other marketing strategies

  • Other activities effective at reaching out to the communities of focus


Program Timeline

We will be reviewing applications when we receive them up until February 18, 2022, 11:59 PM HST. *Late proposals may be reviewed at the discretion of FilCom CARES if funds still remain.

  • Applicants will be notified within 7 days of receipt of their mini-grant application

  • All awardees will have to submit a final impact report by March 17, 2022.

Project Expectations**

  • Demonstrate community need for COVID related outreach and education in the Hawaii communities they serve

  • Ensure activities and materials reflect cultural relevance and appropriateness

  • Clear strategies for reaching their communities through selected activities, such as:

    • Phone banking or in-person outreach

    • Discussion groups to identify community needs and concerns or virtual town hall

    • Develop culturally and linguistically relevant materials on access to COVID services and supports

    • Promotion of events/information via newsletter or social media

  • Commitment to provide report information to FilCom CARES as outlined in the timeline above

  • Commitment to provide documentation and proof of expenditures to FilCom CARES with preliminary and final reports, if requested

  • Share basic aggregated and de-identified data from outreach activities and produce a final report with reflections on activities and successes

  • Share key themes of information gathered via community engagement to inform tailored communications

  • Share feedback about lessons learned

  • Comply with local, state, and federal laws

**These guidelines may be partially amended to better reflect the objectives of our funding sources. If an amendment is made after your have submitted a proposal, you will receive notice and if necessary, be allowed to update your proposal

Projects should not:

  • Be for the purpose of obtaining a profit

  • Be overtly political in nature and/or relate to a specific political party

  • Center around boycotts and/or to campaign against something

  • Primarily fund: Prepared foods, honoraria for speakers, long-distance travel, personal items, equipment, operating expenses
